What makes you say that you have low amounts of free memory?  Which version of Windows are you running?  How much memory do you have?  In most versions of Windows, the amount of free physical memory varies continuously throughout a Windows session.  When Windows needs more physical memory for a foreground task, it pages background tasks to virtual memory to free up the physical memory for faster processing of the foreground task.  It is often said that in Windows free physical memory is wasted memory.  So, if you let us know more about the symptoms, we may be able to tell you if this is normal or is a real problem.

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific.  I'm getting a window that pops up that informs me I am out of "free memory."  This occurs occasionally when I try to do something - like open a MS Word document or open my financial software, etc.  I can't remember the exact verbiage of the window, but it pertains to my free memory being nonexistent and it prohibits me from opening whatever software it is I'm trying to open.  That's about all the info I can give you without giving the exact verbiage of the window.  I hope that clarifies it some.  Thanks for your time.

Please post the exact wording of the error message and the specific program in which it occurrs.  Also answer the following questions from my last reply - Which version of Windows are you running?  How much memory do you have?

The window says "There is not enough free memory to run this program.  Quit one or more programs and then try again."  It comes up occasionally (like right now) when I try to open MS Word.  It just came up when I clicked on the system icon in the control panel, as well as numerous other instances.  It did not come up when I opened Outlook Express interestingly enough, while it was coming up for those other things.  I'm running Windows ME.  I believe I have 64 MEG of RAM (its an old computer), but I can't check right now w/o closing this program.  Does that help you out any?  THanks again for your time.

64 Mb of RAM is not much, but should be ok if you don't open a lot of programs.  You may have lots of stuff running in the background that is not necessary.  See the following:
