GX280 Same problems

I've tried to read thru all the threads about users having problems with creating a bootable devices to pull and push images to GX280 machines. Is the quick fix to go purchase an external usb floppy? and if I do will that work?

Dell folks I'm trying to be cool about all this but what was the purpose of not making this easier? Sercurity or oversite?

Thanks for listening.

    Hi,

    i know this is not helping you with usb booting problems, but since you are using ghost already why not use network capabilities ?

    I found GhostCast server to work great ! Have been using that for years.
    Most systems are nowadays capable of running problem-free network booting.
    If you use PXE booting all you need to do is create floppy images on the PXE server, and the floppy image is loaded into memory of the client machine. Even on machines that have no physical floppy drives anymore. After the network connection to the ghostcast server has been established you can use ghost from there.

    If PXE is not an option, you can use the cdrom drive too.. i have created a network boot cd that supports all Dell and Compaq systems we use. After making a connection to the ghost server all systems can be imaged that way.

    The CD also holds various utilities and Dell bios-es for all our systems etc.

    I know that various geographical locations make this kind of setup difficult but even an old machine can run this stuff nowadays so 1 single machine (even a laptop) per location can make life of imagers really easy.

    Hope this helps.

    I cheat with Ghost. I make a Bootable Floppy with Ghost 7.5 and WIN9X command.com and Himem.sys and emm386.exe Booting from it with

    Device=Himem.sys
    Device=EMM386.EXE RAM
    DOS=HIGH,UMB
    FILES=43
    BUFFERS=25
    FCBS=4,0

    Then I use an IDE to SATA Bridge and use the CDROM IDE channel to ghost from one drive to another. You do drive to drive or drive from image files.
