Gxa (problems detecting Riser)

I recently installed a new 80gb primary hard drive into my sister's computer,
a Dell GXa. Running Windows 98 OS, it working fine.

However I am encountering problems with the Riser on the motherboard.

Whenever I start the computer with a graphics card or modem inserted neither they or the Riser is detected.

However when I leave out the graphics card and modem, the Riser is detected fine.
I have checked both cards and the Riser worked perfectly before hand.

Any suggestions, please

The riser is probably from an OLDER optiplex like a GXi or GXPRO and is therefore NOT COMPATABLE with the GXa.

Just because it fits doesnt mean its compatable.

It worked with the Gxa before I put in the new hard drive.

    Originally it was
8gb hard drive, Windows 98 SE - modem and riser worked properly.

    I don't kno.

Its the same system just with a larger drive. I don't see how the drive could effect it.

The drive has Zero effect on the riser.

What exactly are the symptoms?  I suspect you have a problem with the HDD.  Did you jumper it for cable select?  Is it detected OK in the BIOS?

OK, so what do you mean by not detecting the riser?  Do you mean that cards in the riser are not detected or working properly?

None of the cards are working, when plugged into riser. (Motorola modem and Geforce 2mx)
I have checked out these in other non-riser computers and they work fine.

When I start the computer with just the riser

'Dec 21152 Pci to Pci bridge' appears in System Properties, which I believe is correct.

However when I start with the riser and the 2 cards plugged in, nothing appears.

add (new hardware/ modem) tools find nothing.,,

Try the modem alone.  If that works, then suspect the graphics card compatibility - some cards don't work (e.g. Kyro based Hercules cards don't work properly on a GX1...)

    Hey thanx for the feedback.

    Its working!! both cards!!

I think there was some type of conflict. Disabled some setting in bios.
And changed property in system setting from - read hardware to bios.

    everything was detected!!

    Thanks for the help.
