HDD

HAVE INSPIRON 531S WITH 250GB H/D.  UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 7.  H/D IS SEAGATE 7200.  CAN I INSTALL ANOTHER SEAGATE H/D WITH WIN XP PRO, AND NOT HAVE TO FORMAT IT.

    Hi Chuck7409,

    I would like to add to Jackshack's advice that you will NOT be able to run Windows XP from the other drive. Just thought I'd mention it in case you had that idea.

    You can install the drive without formatting, but you may need to perform the procedures for taking possession of the existing folders on the drive before you can access them using Windows 7.

    ITS NOT THAT I WANT TO RUN XP FROM THE SECOND DRIVE, I WANT TO KEEP THE SPACE AND NOT LOOSE SOME OF THE DOWNLOADS I HAVE.  WHEN I GOT THE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 7,  I USED THE WINDOWS TRANSFER WIZARD TO MIGRATE THE FILES FROM THE OLD COMPUTER TO THE NEW ONE. I THINK THAT WAS ENOUGH, BUT I'M NOT SURE.
