The CD/DVD Rom in my e1505 keeps disappearing. When it is gone, I have to edit the registry and remove the low/high filter enteries, reboot and then it comes back. Since this is a Vista Home Prem. machone, i do not have Media player 7 as the sticky note in this forum say to remove it.
Removing the Highfilters and Lowfilters is the correct procedure to recover the drive, but it is not a solution as you know.
I do not have too much to offer, other than the usual cause of a CD drive driver corruption (Code 39, 19, 41, 31, etc) is software. Most often it is caused by the removal of software that uses the drive as part of its function, such as burning software, but not limited to just that software. It could even be the Anti-Virus software.
Look over what software you have on your system for any possibility of a software the uses the cd drive as part of its function. Consider unintalling (temporary) select ones to see if the problem goes away.
