lost DVD function: "hardware accelerated decoding..."
I'm getting an error message "The hardware accelerated decoding function provided by your display card is unavailable for selection because you switched to an unsupported display mode. ...select a display mode with lower resoultion and a smaller palette...if this message appears again, please update your display driver with the latest version."
This happens when I try to play DVDs with PowerDVD. Windows Media Player shows total corruption and then sometimes crashes my video card. Changing resolution, or refresh rates has no effect. I have the latest video drivers (9800pro Cat.4.2), and had not done any new driver installs when this problem started. Games run fine as do other mpeg files, only DVD function is gone?? I'm baffled, anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Hi Didinanm, Updating Video drivers can at times over write / corrupt files the DVD player needs or expects to find. Consider un-installing and re-installing PowerDVD, also check for any recent update for your version of the software.

Yes, I've done all that. Even installed my drive firmware again. I've exhausted all the normal procedures. And if u read my original post, I said that reinstalling my video drivers was not the cause of this problem.

Look didinanm, there is no reason to get testy with me. I read your #$%& post, no where in it did you state you tried un-installing / re-installing updating the software. Also since you have the “latest video drivers” then you did update them from the time that the software supposedly did / had worked. In the past and the error message
you supplied gives reference to the problem being associated with display drivers, whether this is the case with your system I have no idea, all I was trying to do was offer standard suggestions.
Good luck with your issue.
I can't believe that you would correct my "u" to a "you." How silly and trite is that? You can't help me, fine. Don't waste my time with general suggestions that I could get from my Windows help program. I am not some computer newbie, that is why I provided a specific error message. People amaze sometimes...
I think both you guys are reading too much into my post. I can't understand why people use these forums to start arguments. But let's be honest here, telling someone to reinstall this or that is not much help at all. That's obvioulsy the first thing someone would do. Now, unless someone out there has had a similar error message or can offer some useful insight, please don't try to push my buttons for no other reason but to hear yourself type.
