NEC ND-6500A will not recognize any cd's dvd's. The only exception I have found was it did recognize the win xp home reinstall disc. When I tried to use the Firmware Flash Utility, it said "Target NEC ND-6500a is not found correctly." I have spent hours online chatting with Dell for a solution and they were unable to provide one.
How do I reseat the drive? As I read through my dell chat notes, it looks like I started the process, but couldn't proceed at some point. Also, I retried the Dell USB firmware Update program to see what the error message was after reading another forum member's message. It read, "No device available for update. Please connect a Dell cd/hard drive module and try again.
To reseat your optical drive you will need to remove it completely from the laptop then reinstall it. Usually you need to remove one or two screws in order to facilitate removal of the optical drive.
To give you further advice, you will have to disclose what model laptop you are using.
On the inspiron 9100, the drive is in a bay that slides out and slides back in by releasing the button on the right side. I have clicked the remove hardware safely button on the taskbar and then pushed the release button on the side of the drive front. I have removed the drive. Restarted the computer and nothing changed. Is this what I was supposed to do to reseat the drive?
