No Hard Drive

I booted my laptop the other day, and it would not boot. I went to the BIOS, and it said NO hard drive. So, I purchased a new one. Booted, same result. Is this the controller, or am I missing something?  Thanks everyone.

When you replaced the drive, did you remove the edge connector from the pins on the old drive, and install it onto the new one?

Your replacement process should look very similiar to this:

The last picture is the edge connector ejn63 talks about.

Remove the fixed opticle drive (CD/CDRW/DVD) and see if the HDD is seen. Those 2 drives, HDD and fixed CD drive, are on the same IDE channel and if one fails, CD drive, it stops the systems from seeing the HDD.

Thanks Ed. I didn't know they share the IDE. I'm at work now, so I'll give it a try tonight.

If the HDD IS seen after I take out the CD Rom, would that indicate that the CD Rom is bad?

    Thanks for your help.

    Stubby,

You might want to check my thread below entitled "Hard-Drive or Motherboard - a variation...."  We could both be in for bigger problems.  I hope it works out for you though.
