transferring hard drive from old computer

I'm new to the Forum, with a new Dimension 4700.  As a method of transferring the files from my old computer I'm thinking about moving the whole hard drive to the new computer and slaving it to the new hard drive.  Is that possible?  Can someone direct me to a list of steps to do it?

Thanks.

Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

You hook it up to the spare ide connector if you only have one optical drive, if you have two optical drives you unhook one temporarily or buy a Promise card.

Thanks for noticing, I didn't...  Didn't know there was such a thing.  Maybe it includes a new Dell every month for life!  :smileyvery-happy:
