If there is data on the drive you don't have backed up, remove the drive and transfer it to a working system as a secondary, or purchase an external 3.5" drive case and power supply, mount the suspect drive in it, and attach it to a working system and copy your data.
Then return the drive to the 3000, power on, press F12 and load the Dell diagnostics. Run the extended test of the drive.
If it passes, power down, power up, and wait for the Dell screen. Press CTRL and F11 once, together and use the Dell restore to restore the drive to as-shipped.
More likely the drive will fail the test, whereupon you should replace it. You will need the XP CD, so call Dell for it (you need not buy the drive from Dell if you're out of warranty).
