Warning Event Notification Error

I keep getting the following message a minute or so after my computer has booted:

The number of Hard Disk Drives in your system has increased. This typically does NOT indicate a hardware failure.  Contact our Help Desk if you did not personally change your system's Hard Disk Drive configuration or disable devices in System Setup.

When I attempt to clear it, I get a GPF-type error every time.

I get the opposite error (number of drives has decreased) when I boot out of my docking station.  I do have an additional drive in the docking station, which explains the message.  How do I turn this message off?

Thanks.

    hi, welcome.

i guess there must be a harddisk in the docking station.

The error message is not familiar to me, and does not sound like a BIOS or Windows error message.

Is this a personal or a business laptop ?

Did you make any hardware changes lately ?

There is indeed a hard drive in the docking station, which I use for backup.  That explains the message, but not the GPF each time I clear the warning.  Also, I would like the ability to turn off this "feature", since I know it is not a concern.

I use the laptop at my business.  I have received the error since I bought the laptop about a year ago.

    Thanks.

Windows XP Pro.  1gig RAM.  Latitude D600. Plenty of Hard drive space.

    Thanks.

i am sorry - i was not clear in what i asked you.

Who installed the laptop - did you do that or your company ?

I have not seen that error before and if the helpdesk installed software that brings up this notification, they should be able to solve it.

I am curious...  the 'contact our helpdesk' should be accompanied with a phone number or something to indicate what helpdesk is meant and how to contact them.

You could download the free Autoruns by Sysinternals - it will show you all programs that startup automatically.

Maybe you can find a clue there ?

Thanks for the response.  The message is not from any company software.  it seems to be some monitoring program included with my Dell system (I have noticed other postings that report the same error title "Wanirng Event Notification Error" with thei Dell, although the error message details differ).

i have found several references on the web about "Warning Event Notification Error" and all seem to point towards the Dell Openmanage software.

This is management software, used in some companies. At home or without an Openmanage server on the workfloor, it is not of much use.

Do you have that installed ? I am not familiar with it - see if it can be configured to not check for hardware changes. Maybe remove the software - if not needed ?
