Where does my files go?

I have recently added a second harddrive to my dimension 8200.  I made my old drive the slave (C), and my new drive the primary (D).  I was wondering, if I save files onto my computer from the internet, which harddrive does it go to?  Apparently it saves files to the slave (C), and it makes it difficult to find files that I've saved.
 
So, which harddrive does it go to and can I change the destination of it?
 
Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    The primary boot hard drive should the C:/ drive and the slave the D:/
     
    The procedure for changing the D:/ drive assigned letter to C:/ is to reinstall windows XP.

    Ok thanks, but.......
     
    by reinstall do you mean a fresh install or the repair option in setup?  I ask this because I don't want to lose all my stuff in the D drive.  Is that the only way to make XP recognize the D drive as C? 
     
    What I did was clone the old C drive to the new D drive including the OS and then I just swapped the places of the drives with the connection ribbons.  I thought this would make the D drive the primary and XP would boot from the D drive?
     
    Please help, any comments are greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Yes, a clean reinstall, the repair option will not work.

    That should work, the hard drive that has been cloned, must be moved to the primary [end] connector of the cable to make it the C: drive and the old drive to the middle connector, to make it the secondary. Then if you wish you can use XP's disk management to partition and format it for storage.
              
    You should use a cloning utility, like Acronis True Image 9.0    
     
    Or,  Casper XP version 3.0
