ControlCenter NPIV support

We are currently using ECC v6.1 which does not support NPIV. This means we can't use ECC for our zoning for virtual hosts using NPIV.

Anyone know if there will be a v6.2 update or if NPIV will be supported in ecc 7 ?

    Hi Michael,

From the update on the following post from Product Management https://community.emc.com/message/565951#565951

" NPIV will be supported in ProSphere, which is the next generation product replacing ECC."

NPIV will not be supported by ControlCenter 6.1 (emc180436)

The September update of the "EMC® Ionix™ ControlCenter® 6.1 Support Matrix P/N 300-006-384 REV A39" (currently available in Powerlink) adds the following footnote to "Table 30 Supported EMC/Brocade FOS switches" on page 116:

"h. Ionix ControlCenter does not support N Port Identifier Virtualization (NPIV) / Brocade Access Gateway, Virtual fabrics & logical switches, and Administrative Domains features."

    Regards

    Conor

My understanding is that ProSphere does NOT (will NOT?) include functionality to manage SAN zone configuration.  Is that the case?

We plan to use the switch vendor's native tools (Cisco FabricManager, Brocade FOS) for zoning once we make the switch to ProSphere (which we have in a test environment today).

    Hi,

In a future release, the plan is for ProSphere to integrate (Link & Launch) with native element and fabric management tools.  It will amalgamate data from these tools and allow users to launch into them in an appropriate context for diagnostic, performance, zoning and other activities.

    Hi Pavel,

Support for Brocade NPIV/virtual fabrics is targetted for the 2.0 release of ProSphere before the end of this year.

If you have other specific ProSphere questions, then you can check out the new ProSphere forum at https://community.emc.com/community/support/prosphere

You can also find lots of information on ProSphere out on Powerlink under:  Products > Software P-R > ProSphere

    Hi

Bad news coming from EMC really... ProShere cannot now provide all  important services like ECC does . Why should we use  this new software??? We want to use ECC for our blade systems.  And it turns out to be almost impossible... This is a very bad and very strange thing.

    Thank you Seamus.

But this is a really strange thing:   the old  EMC product  ECC is not capable to do basic monitoring  of SAN because of  unsupported NPIV & Virtual Fabrics features.  The oncoming product ProSpehere cannot do it also.

We  changed our SAN to go to Virtual Fabrics on Brocade DCX.    And we got even more problems...

    Hi Pavel,

Just to confirm again - ControlCenter does not/will not support NPIV/Virtual Fabrics;  however, ProSphere will target support for NPIV/Virtual Fabrics in the 2.0 release (provisionally Nov 2012).

    Regards,

    Seamus
