SYMCli questions

1. How to get list of devices which is mapped and not masked?
2. All the devices shown by Symmaskdb command is masked to the host. Is it correct?
3. Is there is any standard sym device other than CKD device which can be in mapped and not masked? Because from my understanding standard device can be masked to host and CK device can be mapped to the mainframe devices
4. CKD device can only be mapped and cannot be masked. That is correct?

    1. How to get list of devices which is mapped and not
    masked?

you could run "symdev list -sid 123 -firstport

this will list all devices that are mapped to at least one FA (clean output to only present meta heads ..not members), then you could run this list of devices through a loop with command: symmaskdb -sid 123 list assignment -dev $device

    2. All the devices shown by Symmaskdb command is
masked to the host. Is it correct?

masked to something :) , could be a WWN for fibre channel connectivity, could be an IQN for iSCSI connectivity.

    3. Is there is any standard sym device other than CKD
device which can be in mapped and not masked? Because
from my understanding standard device can be masked
to host and CK device can be mapped to the mainframe
    devices

yep, you map CKD device but do not mask them to Mainframe Ficon/Escon ports. Also devices that are presented to Celerra gateway units are not masked either, these devices have CELERRA_FBA emulation type.

    4. CKD device can only be mapped and cannot be
    masked. That is correct?

    yes

Just to add a tiny bit of probably useless details ...

    1) already sorted .. but I'll post more later.
    2) sorted.
    3) when you want to offer a device to your host, you ALWAYS have to MAP it on the frontend. FA ports offer another "filter", that you have to explicitly enable on every and each FA port. If you have FA ports WITHOUT masking enabled, you can have FBA devices MAPPED but not MASKED. Celerra is the most notable Operating System requiring/suggesting NOT to enable masking.
    4) Yes, right now it's correct .. Don't know the future unfortunatly ;-)
