UNITY Multi Protocol Server - Configuration

Hello Experts,

Most of our NAS share is Multiprotocol in Celerra and VNX. Currently we purchased UNITY in our Environment'

As everyone aware in Celerra and VNX hybrid share we don't have that much setup. but in UNITY its completely deference

So we are in the situation of Configure Unix Directory Service with LDAP (using port 636)

What are the Pre-requirement on the AD Server to achieve successful configuration of UDS?

    Hey Anson,

You'll find some details in this document:

    https://www.emc.com/collateral/white-papers/h15572-dell-emc-unity-nas-capabilities.pdf

Do a search in that PDF, and look for RFC2307.

You dont have to use LDAP for multi-protocol

There still are ntxmap, NIS and local passwd/group available as well as a new functionality in Unity for default Unix/Windows user.

if you currently have multi-protocol accounts that are mapped through usermapper on VNX (not best practice) then you do need to change your config since currently on Unity usermapper gets disabled when a NAS server is configured for multi-protocol.

In a future release we are planning to enable this.

    Hi Rainer_EMC,

Any idea when the future release will be that addresses this concern with needing Unity usermapper for multi-protocol?

    Its in the next release

I have already tested it in beta

for dates please work with your local Dell EMC or partner presales

keep in mind that you dont necessarily need this for multi-protocol to work.
It works well through the existing mapping methods

plus you can also use the default Unix account - which is a new functionality in Unity compared to VNX
