Comp wont start up!

OK yesterday I was talking on AOL IM and then my whole computer locked up...mouse nor anything would work(havn't clicked on links sent to me on AOL IM)

So I shut the computer down then attempted to restart

When I rebooted the computer a black screen with this type on it came up:

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully.  A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose start windows normally

Safe mode
Safe mode with Networking
Safe mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration(your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally"

----I tryed to reboot the computer with all the SAFE MODES and the Last Known Configuration and Start Windows Normally

None of these processes worked to open windows

With each different attempt I would get the same blue screen which read"

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.  If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000ED  (0x823427B8, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)  "

I have restarted the computer repeatedly and this same screen appears, I cant even get into windows to remove any programs.  Please help me so I can get my computer running ASAP, I have so much information and papers from College that I need.  Please lead me in the right direction to get this fixed

This is a hard disk (or file system or hard driver) error.

A good place to start is to use the Windows Recovery Console (using the Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista) boot CD/DVD and choosing the recovery console option when prompted.

After logging in using the Administrator account, run the CHKDSK /P command on your hard disk. For a more detailed scan, use CHKDSK /R.
