computer running slow might have virus

every time i acess the internet it seems to get slower i have a cable conection. it used to be fast, now its running slow.  i think i have a virus

    ocean,

    Download, then unzip to " C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.0. Now, let's do the following:

    1. Click " Scan"
    2. Click " Save log"

    Notepad will pop-up with a copy of your system long, then:

    1. " Edit | Select all"
    2. " Edit | Copy"

    Next, let's " Reply" back to this post, then:

    1. Right-click on the message body.
    2. Select " Paste"

    Then just " Post" the message, and we'll analyze your log shortly, then post back any recommendation(s).

    i ran trend micro scan. said  troj_xpasslogg.A .  was not able to delete it. please any info on how to get back net speed thank you. matt

    I'm looking at it now; I believe your running XP. Do me a favor if you would - I'm not partial to whether you haven't installed any service packs, but I need to see the information in the header to offer the best over all advice. Can you post that up for me?

    ocean,

    I believe you might have a keylogger on your system. It 'captures' your keystrokes and can send them, over the internet, to someone else. The keystrokes can include passwords, credit card information, anything you type on your computer. So, let's play it safe - after we get this fixed, be sure to change all the passwords for your system, and using a 3-rd party firewall, deny the programs we're fixing access to the internet.


    Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

    regsvr32 /u 8d3d8d3d.dll

    It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.



    Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:


    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: IMTHelper Class - {FA1A6CC3-BE63-4f7c-A455-417D35A67DA6} - c:\windows\system32\8d3d8d3d.dll

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    these are the files i could not delete

    Matt,

    Good work! Let's do two things....

    1.  Run HouseCall again.

    2.  Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode" and see if you can delete those files from there.

    when i am in safe mode what program do i use to delete this . sorry for all the posts  thank you for your help matt
