Help keeping winfixer from returning

I have tried eliminating winfixer for two days now, but can't get it to stay gone... I followed some instructions found here and elsewhere.  I believe I have removed the virus ( panda scan no longer finds it), and HJT no longer shows an explorer event... so I think I might have gotten that as well, but I am obviously missing something, or I have or had mulitiple versions of the infection.

Here is my HJT log, I appreciate any help that you can give me...

if this is what i think it is, the "classic" symptom for Winfixer has "mutated"... I have e-mailed 3 of the forum experts, to get some confirmation and assistance from them.

while we wait... did the panda scan identify the filename, and/or type of virus it found?

i'm taking for granted the filename is pmnnk.dll

and the virus type is probably vundo or virtumonde ???

[still hoping that one of the others i've contacted will find out what's happening here...]

Here is the panda actice scan file log:

    Incident                      Status                        Location

    Spyware:Spyware/Virtumonde    Not disinfected               C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\awtsq.dll

After panda scan identifyed the file I used killvundo to remove it, not sure if that was the right thing to do, but it sounded like a good idea at the time... I had already used killvundo to eliminate the "02: BHO MSEvent", that file name was qqtwa.dll If memory serves me correctly.

as a "rule of thumb", a FIVE (5) letter "randomly" named ("alphabet soup") .dll file, appearing in the O20 section, has been an indication of a Vundo/Virtumundo trojan... such as the ones you mentioned ( awtsq.dll &  qqtwa.dll ), and the one i'm concerned about ( pmnnk.dll ).   In most cases, these bad files have been accompanied by a corresponding  O2:BHO MSEvents Object line (referencing the identical filename).   However, your log instead has an O2:BHO ATLDistrib Object line --- which I've never encountered before.  the long number in brackets, called the ClassID, can generally be used to get detailed information about the BHO... but when i requested information on the ClassID here

    {659E147E-BD03-4605-988C-AA6D7EA497CA}

    nothing is showing up :smileysad:

My best guess is that the creators of WinFixer might have mutated/morphed the virus, now that people know to look for the O2-MSEvents line.   But I can't say this for certain.   As mentioned, I've already e-mailed 3 forum experts about this, to see what they may be able to add here.   It's Thanksgiving weekend, so i don't know who is even around at this point.

**IF** it turns out to be a "morphed" version of WinFixer/vundo, then the killvundo you've already used (part of Atribune's VundoFix) would be the way to proceed with this as well.   But i'm still hoping to get some confirmation on this, rather than to tell you to proceed on a "hunch".

Another forum thread here, gave instructions on removing the 02: BHO MS EVENTS Object line... I followed those instructions, removed it, then when I did the panda scan it located the other *.dll file, which had no corresponding event line when I ran HJT.  That is when I ran vundokill and used the file path panda scan provided, which appears to have deleted that file, since panda scan no longer finds it.  I performed this last task on a hunch, hope I didn't do anything wrong there.  These two cleans have appeared to help my system performance and cut down on the popups, but it is obviously not completely cleaned up.  I even followed a suggestion to look for the known hidden form of winfixer, by using Rootkitrevealer... but I didn't find anything that looked suspicious.  Thanks for your help so far and I know it is a holiday so don't worry about making me wait, I undersatnd!

just a (possibly interesting) update while we (still) wait... there are now two "hits" on Google for ATLDistrib , and both of them are requests for HJT assistance... in French.

the freeze, and need to reboot by turning off the power, could still be an indication that VBG found something.   the point is, it resulted in a "fatal" error of some type.

running VBG at this point shouldn't do anything, since its programming code looks for MSEvents... unless/until the author re-codes it (if he deems it appropriate to do so), it doesn't look for the ALTDistrib.

Something else I forgot to share... when I ran VirtumondoBeGone I did not get the "blue screen of death"... my system did freeze and I did have to reboot by turning of the power. I don't know if this is because it didn't find the specific version of the virus it is designed for, I thought it might be something to consider when trying to help me.
