Hijack This Log-Please review

My Windows Firewall in Windows XP is currently turned off.  When I open the window to turn it on, the window is greyed out (but I can read the window) and I'm not allowed access to turn it on or off.  I am also having trouble downloading any Windows updates/fixes since the firewall settings are inaccessible.  I have run several virus/adware scans to clean the pc, but I'm still having trouble.

Your log's not showing any malware. It does show that you are running two different Security Suites though...Symantec's and SBC Yahoo's On Line Protection Suite.

Symantec's Security Suite includes a personal firewall which by default, turns off the Windows Firewall upon installation. This behavior is by design and nothing to be concerned with. When/If you should decide to uninstall the Symantec products, the Windows Firewall will be turned back on automatically.

I am not familiar these days with the SBC Yahoo Security Suite. Check with them to see if it includes any third party firewall protection with it. If so, that's another problem.

You should only run ONE EACH of antivirus and firewall software. If both Security Suites offer firewall protection AND antivirus protection, I would opt for the SBC yahoo package for two reasons:
    1) They are your ISP
    2) Symantec's products are WAY too bloated these days

You actually reduce your level of protection when you run more than one antivirus application in real time. You also run the risk of data loss from a system crash that the instability can cause.

You should decide which to keep and uninstall the other.

Your problems with Windows Update is another matter. I don't see any active X component in your log from the Windows Update site. Please post back and describe any error message you receive...or describe exactly what happens when you click here.
