McAfee Security Center

Hi

I am very grumpy so I am sorry  if I am terse .... and gosh this laptop GRRR  ... XPS M1330 ... the V and space bar don't work unless you virtually pound on them .... my nephew has the same problem with his 15" Inspiron laptop. OK that is not my current problem ... on to the problem at hand ...

OK I turn on the laptop

I get a pop up warning me  that I am not fully  protected

I click on the button ... McAfee SVC CTR pops up ...

SAYS ... >>> Am I protected: NO

I click FIX and it says it cannot fix the situation because there is an error. (I have clicked this button twice in the past and it fixed whatever was wrong on the first try)

So I tried their virtual tech. Same thing.. can't fix it cuz there is an error.

I get one of their techs in chat ... I am told that I need to contact their virus team and pay $90 to fix the laptop ... becaus I "obviously" have a virus ...

I was like FUNNY I can't verify that because YOUR software won't let me.

So  I download AdAware ... and run it ... according to them I don't have any problems ..

So I contact McAfee AGAIN ... I am told I need to remoe and reload the software and they  will mail me the directions, buh bye ... OH and since I bought the year of coverage thru DELL they  won't be acknowledging that I have a paid subscription when I reload the software unless I jump thru more obscure and unmentioned HOOPS ...

I  have been working on this for 24 hours ... I am tired, frustrasted, sick of having to dig thru endless web pages and links to find the correct exact answer, only to come up empty! And I don't have $90 to have someone else fix it ... that BTW sounds like a scam!!! I don't have ANYTHING that says I have a virus! I COULD but woudn't the McAfee software that I PAID for be protecting me from that?

I have not downloaded ANYTHING, accepted any strange web pages, opened any mail from someone I dont know.  How else am I getting a virus ... shouldn't the McAfee software be protecting me....

Oh I know you are thinking ... stupid girl ... or rolling your eyes ... LOL ... but reallly ... this is rocket science in my head ...

So ... is this a known problem somewhere in this very confusing forum? Or is there step-by-step instructions on how to fix this somewhere ... I've gotta work so ... I am turning this off for now ... IF it wasn't such an expensive pc of equipment I woulda flung this thing against the wall about 8 hours ago ... :o(

Sincerely
Spaz

Hi Spaz, The last time I had an error like that, i did not do an scan of my system for over 30 days.

    Hi mojo9373,

First of all, get some rest before you start this project again. Frustration can set in sooner if you are tired and you are unable to think clearly.

Here are some options to try:

    1. As RobinBredin suggested, see if you can download just the updates.

    2. If that does not work, you might ask others in the McAfee Support Forum if they have had a similar problem.

    3. It could be that malware has disabled your McAfee. Try a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and click on "Remove Selected" when the scan is finished so it removes what it finds.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

Hi. Having all the same problems - AS WE SPEAK!  Security Center is specifically telling me that "my detection signature file is 30 days old" and that I have to reinstall Virus Scan.  I have had no luck running the virtual tech, no luck getting thru with live chat, and no luck getting ahold of any tech on the telephone.  BACK TO DELL - can anyone help.  I am on slow dialup; impossible for me to download a whole new anti-virus software program.  THANKS.

Hi mojo9373, Have you tried downloading the updates, (not the full software ) and doing an scan. That is what i had to do, and it worked for me.
