Shortly after purchasing my new Inspiron 1505 laptops, I uninstalled the nightmarish McAfee in favor of better AV and Firewall programs.

 

Unfortunately, McAfee has problems letting go. My program updates are still being blocked. Cannot get rid of the McAfee personal firewall (Vista reports that I have two firewalls going, including that one). Vista also reports that I still have McAfee AV! Cannot find any "obvious" McAfee files in my computer. Have tried running the various supplemental McAfee uninstall tools (MCPR.exe and MPFCleanupTool.exe) both in regular and safe mode without success. They both report failures. Cannot reinstall McAfee since the 90 day trial period expired.

 

How do I get rid of the beast?
