Microsofts Malicious Software Removal Tool

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with Windows XP. I receive Windows updates.
I have received a notice from an icon in my Taskbar. (Lower right corner of my monitor.)
The notice is to install Microsoft's Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.
I understand that this is a beta program and has not been really tested. My cable server has various protections. I have Symantic's Anti-Virus and Firewall programs. I do not want Microsoft's latest update.
I cannot remove Microsoft's notification icon from my Taskbar. Every time I click the icon (left or right) the installation dialog box opens.
Please let me know how I can remove this icon from my Taskbar.
Thanks....BG

    Hi
That's NOT the Beta Version of the Spyware Tool.
This is a whole different deal and it is a critical update so I suggest that you update you system.
This will not install the Beta program although so far I don't have a bad thing to say about it.........YET:)

First of all you are confusing this with the anti-spyware program that Microsoft is offering in beta. What I would do is go to the update site and when it scans your computer check the box that says hide this update.

Be reminded that it is a critical update and really needs to be installed for your system's protection

As others above have it is not the beta spyware program from M$

The MS Malicious Software Removal Tool does not actually install on anybody's computer.  This tool merely scans (very quickly) your system one time after you download it, and if a certain virus is detected, it is removed.  If nothing is found, nothing is reported to you.  Microsoft will release this tool once a month via Automatic Updates/Windows Update.  You can check the results of the scan by opening a file called mrt.log.
