Netspry Visus - Hijacking

Chris,

Thanks for your reply, I tried the site you mentioned but there were no "inetadpt.dll files" on the screen for removal. Is there another way to get rid of this thing? I tried to run the "stinger" program but my computer "crashes" mid way through the program. Help

Yes, BUT do post in a 'NEW MESSAGE' not as a reply here - one persons problem to each thread, get too confusing otherwise.

    tkdwinks

We next need to fix your LSP stack.

    Download LSPfix here:

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.

Check all instances of inetadpt.dll (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane.
    Then click Finish.

Then please post a fresh log, (the next one should allow me to fix the balance of the problems).

The section from 'tkdwinks' was addressed to that user NOT you, Without a hijackthis log, I will not give any advice. And you can see why trying to help two people in the same thread is not advisable. Please follow this advice below, when you get to the hijackthis log part, paste the log in as a reply here please.
    ---------------------------------------------
Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).

    1) SpyBot Search and Destroy
After installing SpyBot Search & Destroy, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all the items it marks in red.

    2) Get Ad-Aware
After installing Ad-Aware, and before running the program, first press “check for updates now".
Click "Connect" and install all updated components available. Click 'Finish'.
Press "Scan Now", then 'next', and let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again.
Check all found items, and click 'next' once more.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Always reboot the computer between each program - both of these may find things that they need to have a reboot of the machine to clear - please reboot and let them finish .

Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary. Then run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste as a reply to this post and an expert with HijackThis Knowldge, will have a go at giving advice. Please note the list of experts names below, very few forum regulars here have had this training.

I had the same problem.  I sent an email to Netspry for their help and this is what they passed on to me:

To delete our software and change your homepage back to the website you would like, please do the following:
    1. Make sure all your Internet Explorer windows are closed (you can hit ctrl + alt and delete to get to the task manager to make sure)
    2. Go to "C:/Program Files/Homepage" and Delete the entire folder.
    3. Open up Internet Explorer and go to Tools then Internet Options and set your homepage there.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

To make sure that it took, I then went into the registry and changed the following value:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/Start Page and set it to my normal home page.

    I rebooted and it worked!!!

    Then Reboot.

    Your log is now clean.

Follow the link below to my site, malware section, and install spywareblaster and spywareguard from the links.

    Also ie-spyad from here
With all those active you will be safer, do update them periodically.
