Updates 3/18/16 - MBAM, Firefox

The following was copied/pasted from https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topic/180348-mbam-221-patch-release/

Hello—

We’re happy to announce that our latest MBAM patch release, MBAM 2.2.1.1043, was released today.

You may download MBAM 2.2.1.1043 from this link.

We’ll be enabling automatic upgrades for current users beginning next week.  If you’d like to upgrade before then, simply download the new version from the link above and install.

Here's the full list of What’s New in v. 2.2.1--

Improvements:

  • Context Menu scanning option is now enabled by default.  Note if you had this option disabled previously and want to retain that setting, you must disable again manually this one time only.  Future updates will retain the setting properly
  • Improved renewal experience for those who purchased in retail store so that the original license key is retained post-renewal instead of requiring that a new key be entered and activated
  • Improved End of Trial experience so it is clear that trial has expired and real-time protection is no longer available
  • Added additional license checks to ensure subscription details are updated as quickly as possible after a renewal is processed
  • Updated company and product logos with new logo
  • For Premium subscription licenses, removed Renew button from My Account screen to avoid confusion over license term

Issues Fixed:

  • Fixed security vulnerability to ensure database updates are downloaded over SSL connections only
  • Fixed crash that occurred if Dell Backup and Recovery software was installed on same system
  • Fixed issue where scheduled scan did not honor weekly recurrence properly
  • Fixed issue where license expiration notices were incorrectly displaying multiple times in rapid succession
  • Fixed issue where the Scheduler would continue to run in certain cases after a trial had expired
  • Fixed issue where the update progress bar on the Dashboard would appear to hang and would never complete
  • Several improvements to Chameleon self-protection

Please post any feedback you have in our main Help forum here.

Thanks!

Man, I hate the arbitrary changes in the GUIs  of operating systems and browsers, that effectively obstruct  folks from installing the latest security updates and versions.

Case in point: Firefox 45.0.1.  Ff has never been my default browser, but I always kept it installed/updated as a backup. And with no grief using Win XP or Win 7, as outlined by ky331.

Fast forward to Win 10. There is no help tab/about Firefox. After extensive searching, I find that the icon using three horizontal bars contains the "Help" icon (as a question mark). Hardly intuitive.

    Joe,

I believe the problem is that, some browsers (including FF) --- wanting to maximize the amount of viewable screen-space --- have hidden the Menu Bar by default.

Try the following:   with FF open hit ALT-V.   This should display the VIEW menu.   Then go to Toolbars, and check the Menu Bar.

That should place the classic Menu Bar at the top of your FF screen, and all its familiar features --- including Help / About Firefox --- should now be available.

P.S.   The 3 horizontal bars are called the "Hamburger" icon, as that is what many people think it looks like ;-)

    Thanks ky. That works.

I was just grousing about the time needed to learn new browsers and OSs. I can understand the desire to preserve screen real estate, especially as folks migrate from desktops to tablets and smaller screens. It just seems that toolbars, status bars, taskbars and other functions are increasingly hidden in menus/sub-menus and harder to find, and fear this does not bode well for security. Navigating seems to have been dumbed down, to all but the most determined.

After a few months with Win 10, I'm still not comfortable making it my workhorse system for work purposes. But I'm getting there.
