How many HS drives on VNX2?
I know I've seen an EMC document that stated the new 2.5" drives only needed one HS per 50 drives. This is still two full DAEs, which is the same as 30 per HS on 3.5" disks. I have also seen it should still be per 30. Which is correct?

The Custom Hot Spare Policy on the new VNX2 models allows 1 per 2-30 drives (2-10 & 30). 30 is the recommended.

Could you help to provide the source of this statement?
According to this whitepaper: http://www.emc.com/collateral/analyst-reports/h12090-emc-vnx-mcx.pdf. There are three hot spare policies, and the "recommended" one is still 1 hot spare per 30 drivers of every type:

After going through all my docs, I think it was a VMAX w/25-disk DAEs that only requires 1 HS per 50 disks. I think that was my confusion.

Hello.
I know that the EMC rule for hotspare is still 1:30 (1 HS per drive). Its just a guide, since EMC VNX hotspares work as a Global Hotspare. The important thing is that there is a hotspare for each drive type you have. This can help reduce performance degradation between 10k and 15k rpm drives. Provide a Hotspare drive according to the type of SAS Disk or SSD drive present on the VNX system.(ex. if 600GB SAS are used, with 300GB SAS disks ...then a 600GB and 300GB Hotspare drives must be present as well).
