Shared server replication - what about the CIFS server name?

i'm configuring remote replication on a VNXe3100 running the latest code.

I have quite some experience on the VNX / Celerra models and i'm familiar with the VDM concepts on those models.

However, VDM is not a feature of the VNXe. So it came as quite a suprise to find out a shared server name is not being replicated as it would with a VDM-like setup.

So how would i best deal with the different shared server names on both sides after a failover?

i cannot rename the cifs server after a failover if i understood correctly from reading the forums.

Telling my customers they should plan for a namechange after a failover is a bit challanging...

You may consider modifying the DNS entries for this CIFS server. Either creating a alias name or changing the IP address to point to destination CIFS server may help.

Take a look at knowledgebase article - emc276897.

thanks for the article. Though it would end up with such a solution.

Looks like the DNS change is the only solution in current VNXe release.
