VNXe3100 SNMP

Hi,

I need to configure SNMP access to several VNXe3100 arrays.  I cannot find where to define the community name, protocol version etc in the Unisphere GUI.

Is this comething I have to configure via ssh or the service menu?

Many Thanks

Qaiser

Not necessary since the VNXe only supports sending SNMP traps and not SNMP itself (get requests)

Thank you for the reply.  This is unfortuante.  I would like to set up performance monitoring of the VNXe.  The graphs in Unisphere are not very granular and we aer seeing poor NFS performance.  I would also like to add the devices to Nagios .

    Hi Qaiser,

Currently SNMP is supported on VNXe but we don’t have a customization file that is the .MIB file that is used to customize the VNXe. For that reason it does not work with many of the SNMP servers.

We are still developing the MIB file so that we can give the File to end users and they can customize the SNMP trap as per the SNMP Server.

I am trying to edit the MIB file so I can provide you for a temporary purpose.

    Thanks,

Will the VNXe 3100 ever have SNMP "gets" supported? Traps only do so much...would be very nice to be able to poll via SNMP for monitoring. Shame such a device wouldnt support SNMP gets when its is supported on so many (and much less costly) devices.

Currently VNXe supports only sending traps to SNMP servers, which means whenever any events (like no free space, SP reboot, Failover, etc.) it sends a trap message to SNMP server. It is the same kind of message what you see in Alert page.  By default SNMP server uses UDP port 162.  If you have modified this on their server, that port number should be configured on VNXe.

In SNMP it is also possible to monitor the network device continuously for its performance, status, statistics etc. This requires a MIB file of the network device to be uploaded to SNMP server. Currently VNXe does not have any MIB file in specific so remote monitoring through SNMP is not available.

    Hi Rohan,

any idea of a timeline, as we have two customers where there NOC says SNMP get monitoring is a must have, otherwise system will not qualify for there datacenter.

Or maybe a chance to get into a BETA?

    Thanks

    Yves

    Hi Yves,

Unfortunately the VNXe does not have a MIB today. It is a requirement that we are planning for a future release but won’t be in the next beta or release of the product.
