HP ThinClients with AppPortal cannot see network printers.
Hi,
I am having trouble configuring HP Laserjet p2055dn printers.
I have a W2008 R2 (64 bits) as printing server and the clients are HP ThinClients (with windows xp embedded) using AppPortal to connect to the broker. vWorkspace Management Console can see and assign the printers to the users. However, when a user connects to a virtual desktop, they cannot see any printer available. I have also tried installing the printers in the same machine as the broker, but the problem is the same.
If I log on a virtual desktop and add the printer manually (via \\server\printer -> connect) i can see it, but if i try to see the printer properties I get a windows protection error. Installing all the printers locally is not a solution since I have over 200 thin clients, so i need the broker to correctly assign them.
Are there any more clues in the event log of your Virtual Desktop with regards printer creation errors? Can you also tell us what OS your Virtual Desktop is?
My VDs are Windows XP Pro SP3. I found no useful information in the event log since I started using HP Universal driver PCL 5. However, i was getting errors when using PCL6 (unknown driver error).
Just trying to get a clear picture of what you are trying, are you mapping printers to users via the vWorkspace console using the standard network printer assignment and those printers (print queue) are using the HP Universal driver? Have you tried Quest's Universal Driver? Can you post a screen shot of the console when viewing the Printers under resources.
