WebAccess timeout issue - workaround
I have been troubleshooting a WebAccess 7.1(no MR1-2008 - 32) timeout issue. The error message states:
"Your session with the Web Access server has expired. Please log on again to resume."
When you do try to logon it takes a longer amount of time than usual and enumerate the apps ...when you try to connect to a managed application it looks like it is launching...but does not.
Once isolated to the time discrepency, Configured vmtools in the vm and removed the vmtool-time sync and set it manually. Works for a while and then at some time later it keeps changing back to Netherworld time.
I have been accustomed to dealing with time sync issues in virt desktop but not so much with TS/RDS. Time can wack your WebAccess sessions…causing unusual timeout issues.
Dunno if anyone else has had this issue bite them but thought I would send it along so you can pass it along. Agreed most environments have a good grasp on this and do not use vmtools to update time but when you don’t have access to vcenter, firewall restrictions blocking UDP 123 or they are standing up a separate environment ..they usually don’t have a grasp on all of the particulars…
According to a VMW kb article you can disable TimeSync completely by adding a few parameters to the config file:
If you want to completely disable time synchronization in the guest, open the virtual machine’s configuration file (.vmx) in a text editor and set the following options to zero, as shown below.
tools.syncTime = "0"
time.synchronize.continue = "0"
time.synchronize.restore = "0"
time.synchronize.resume.disk = "0"
time.synchronize.shrink = "0"
time.synchronize.tools.startup = "0"
PS-yes if you use HV it is not an issue! (just for you HV fans - you know who you are!)
PSS-Other posts in vm-kb’s recommend using NTP for time sync.
