As long as I've owned my computer I've experienced a small, strange problem: Every time I set the scrolling wheel of my mouse (a Logitech MX 518) to scroll one screen at a notch/time, the scrolling works as expected until I reboot the computer, at which point the scrolling reverts to 3 lines a time.
It does not matter whether I set the scrolling wheel value via the control panel, Tweak UI, the Logitech settings panel or Katmouse: the scrolling value always reverts at reboot from one screen to 3 lines a time.
I recently used the System Configuration Utility (Msconfig) to isolate the problem. It turns out that the offending program is: C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe (if I prevent this program from running at start-up, the scroll value is not reset).
First of all, am I right in assuming that "Apoint" is connected to my Alps Touch Pad? Assuming it is, how can I prevent "Apoint" from overwriting the scrolling value I set?
My Alp driver is version 5.4.104.4, dated 10/19/2005.
Thanks so much for your reply. I'm sorry it's taken me such a ridiculously long time to get back to you: last week I got buried in work and other system glitches. But even though this problem with the scrolling wheel is relatively small, I'd very much like to clear it up.
I downloaded the latest Alp driver from this web site, but when I went to install it I received a message that a driver of the same version was already installed. So the driver itself may not be the problem. Do you have any other suggestions?
Unfortunately, it does not matter whether I set the scrolling wheel value via the control panel, Tweak UI, the Logitech settings panel or Katmouse: the scrolling value I set works until I reboot, at which point it always reverts to 3 lines at a time.
The only time the setting does not revert is when I run the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) and, on the Startup tab, stop Apoint.exe from loading. That's why I believe my problem lies with this program.
Thank you so much for the links. I've reviewed them all and, unfortunately, didn't find anything that was of help for my particular problem. But I really appreciate your assembling that wealth of information! I guess I'll have to take this point up directly with Dell, although I'm my 3-year service contract has expired.
