Well I am replying to my own, message. I did a google search and it came up with it is tool used by Logitech, which is the web camera my wife has by Logitech. It said it was not virus.

Now is this correct, I would still appreciate any help.

Yes I have Spybot, and I have it updated, and it did not find anything. It said congradulations nothing was found. So do you think this is a problem, should I end the backweb process through task manager? Any more help is appreciated.

Yes, at this point I would end it through 'Task Manager', if it shows up there. I can't find anything 'good' about it at all, so if you disable it and find something not working that should be working, re-enable it an maybe narrow down excatly what it is. I can't fimd anything but bad things about it, tho.

backweb-8876480.exe is legit, it is a logitech updater that automatically checks for updates; so it's up to you if you want that (I always use manual updating of software, so I konow whay's going on; autoupdates tend to keep accessing their sites rather more often than necessary, using up resources needlessly).

Pacs portal startups also lists it:

LDM         backweb-8876480.exe, ldmconf.exe
Installed with the software for Logitech products. Automatically checks for software upgrades AND new products, services and special offerings from Logitech. Also listed under Logitech Desktop Messenger.

There are several other backweb****.exes given in pacs portal, auto updaters for e.g. Kodak.

but backweb.exe is not legitimate, it is a trojan

although pacs portal does say there is a legitimate backweb.exe associated with HP and Compaq PCs, again an autoupdate service that hogs resources.

Conclusion: you don't need to worry, but I would remove it from the startup list as you don't need it.

 

Hi JRosenfield, thanks so much for replying. That is the exact results I found on the Google search. My wife bought a Logitech Web Cam Camera, and that is about the time the backweb 887648 process appeared. I only found out about google today and I tried it, and came up with the answer you gave me. Thank you so much for the good news. Now I will figure out how to stop it, and that will be it. I rather manual updates also.
