. I cant load any operating system from a cd. If I try, the windows cd loads all the various drivers into memory, then I get a blue screen telling me I have either got a virus on the hard drive (there isnt) or there's a problem with something Ive just installed. (I hadn't) So I had to do a factory reinstall of Vista from the Dell D partition. I had wanted to partition the drive and install XP, because neither my colour printer or my scanner work properly with Vista. So I just installed a second drive, to have XP on one and Vista on the original. BUT I still have the problem- the XP disk wont go past the same blue screen. I took out the original drive, but no change. Can there be something Im missing?
Nobody can help because you didn't provide any information as to the make and model of your dell nor the version of XP or Vista.
Not seeing the drives is common when the F6 drivers are not installed during initial setup.
The file below contains the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager Floppy Configuration Utility. This utility will create a floppy disk containing the RAID driver files for installation on a 32-bit operating system. This floppy can be used to pre-install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver during the F6 portion of Windows* setup.
OS:Windows 7 RC1, 32-bit*, Windows Server* 2003, Windows Server* 2003 Standard Edition, Windows Server* 2008, Windows Vista 32*, Windows Vista*, Windows* XP Home Edition, Windows* XP Media Center Edition, Windows* XP Professional

Sorry- new to this. Computer is a Dell dimension E520. I was trying to load Windows XP home edition from CD. I didnt have any problems with the factory reinstall ( Vista home edition), but I did that before I installed new drive. I now have Vista on the original Hard Drive, and a formatted second drive that I would like to install XP on.
When I boot from CD, hoping to install on the new drive, I keep getting the same blue screen . Can there be a virus that isn't recognised by my virus checker, that would prevent the install?

Adding new drive will break factory restore.
