I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with XP. I was in the process of trying to remove the Adware-OneStep program from my computer based on info from a site I found on the web. This site required me to turn off the restore program and go into safe mode based on their instructions. This is where my problem started. I found out that while in safe mode I could not get thru to the internet thru my AOL program so I decided to just go back into normal mode and forget about removing the Adware-onestep program.
At this point I wasn't able to get out of safe mode. The computer would not let me. Every time I restarted I was put right back into safe mode. So, I said what the heck I'll put in the reinstallation disc and start with a fresh computer. While this was going on, I got a message stating I could not reinstall the OS. I shut the computer down and restarted it and now I am in a sort of perpetual loop where I get this message stating set up s being restarted......and then I get this other message stating that Windows XP setup cannot run under safe mode. Set up will restart now. click OK and the loop starts over.
Well that appears to be good news. Just let the OS install. Once you are at the desktop do not let it do any windows updates. You need to first reload drivers as per the steps HERE. Note that there is no Desktop system software for your system so you can skip that step.
Once you have all your drivers reinstalled. check device manager for anything that might still be missing. If device manager is clean then slowly begin to start getting windows updates. I always suggest you only do a few at a time and give the system a spin in between update installs. This checks stability of the update installs.
Try putting your disk into the optical drive. Power on the computer and at the Dell splash screen press the F12 key to get to the boot menu. Select the option to boot from the onboard CD rom.
Did that before I posted. I cannot reboot from the reinstallation disc until I get out of safe mode. I am in a perpetual loop as stated in my original post which is keeping me from finding my way to get out of safemode. How do I get out of safe mode now when my computer won't even go into the OS. I tried to restart in normal but computer still wants to start in safe mode.
Try going into the bios and changing the boot order. you are saying that you cannot get to the F12 menu? Are you pressing the F12 as soon as you see the Dell splash screen? You might also want to try tapping the F12 key a few time.
Ok this is where I am at the moment. I tried F12 again and have gotten a little further into the reinstallation process. So far I am at 65% on the formating screen. I am hoping this will get me straight. What can I expect to see during the reinstallation? Is there anything else that is required of me to install once the reinstallation disc is finished? I am very new to this process and I would ike to get it corret the first time. I am taing notes as well. I DO NOT have the funds to put this thing in the shop at this point in time... so if there is anything else I need to know or install or what ever, can you please walk me thru it? I would greatly appreciate it.
This is pretty much the only problem I have with regards to installing the OS and any drivers and such that are required. Most other programs and the like I can install with minimal help.
Ok the OS is on. It looks like I'll be busy for a while reading about what drivers I need, i guess based on what is installed on computer correct? If that is the case, can you check in on my post every once in a while? I may have some questions if I run into a problem.
Yes that will have the drivers you need. They should be good enough to get you up and running. Again be sure to follow the order of install. Which in your case is just make sure you install the chipset driver first. The rest are really not critical but the order given is a logical layout
