Drive will boot from a disk just fine but won't read it under Vista 64. Device manager says it's working properly. Any suggestions what else to try/test to determine the cause? Yes, I've been loading software onto my new machine... and I don't know exactly when it started... and I'd rather not unload 15 software packages and test them one by one.
Are there specific Services that I could check which the CD/DVD needs in order to read under Vista?
Uninstall the drive in the Device Manager then restart the PC and Windows (Vista) will detect and reinstall the drive. This fixes a lot of this type problems.
To access the Device Manager, hold the Windows Key down and press the Pause/Break key. When the panel comes up, Device Manager can be accessed from the Task List at the upper left of the panel. Highlight the problem drive the RIGHT click on it and then LEFT click on UNINSTALL (do not click the box to uninstall drivers).
