Have you tried plugging into a different outlet? Does it make any sounds or lights at all? Have you had alot of storms lately? It could be a couple things... but more than likely the power supply

take the case off, see if there's any lights on the mobo on.

If no lights, i'd say it's likely the power supply.  If there is a light, i'd try taking any devices out that you can, and then try booting, see if you get any love.  More than likely in the end, you'll find it's hte power supply though.

If you're gettting no lights at all, then i'd say likely the power supply.

You could try unplugging it, holding the power button down for 10 seconds, toggling the voltage selector switch back n forth, then plugging it in and pushing power.

If still no luck, then yeah probably the power supply.

Where are you that you don't get tech support on the weekend? (not that it'll help you much cause they won't be able to ship it out over the weekend, unless you have the contract to support it, which is highly unlikely).

We had the identical problem in January with a 4600 that was one month out of warranty. It was the power supply. The Indians told us it was the motherboard, but they were wrong. A new power supply was all that was needed.

We started a string of messages on the Dell website, and there were lots of people with the same problem, all with power supplies of the same lot number. They all quit just after the warranty ran out, although one guy did get Dell to send him a replacement. Anyway, the list of messages on this problem was over 60 when Dell just shut it down completely. That's the way they deal with problems caused by using inferior components.

So don't bother with Dell tech support. It is worse than useless. Go to CompUSA or Best Buy or order one from TigerDirect. They are not expensive, and you will be back in business immediately. But don't go for the cheapest. The 250w ones that Dell uses are way too small.

Changing a powersupply is simple and less expensive than the board... is your system still underwarranty? if it is then i would call dell email me if you like i have a good tech number to call cvcgirltech@hotmail.com
