I have run Norton, ADWare, Sypbot and have Windows Defender installed and operational. I suspect a virus has destroyed a registry key. In searching the net for fixes I have carefully followed all advice but am blocked in numerous attempts with "This operation has been cancelled dut to restrictions..."
Still having the same problem as you are. Control Panel still missing, cannot do much of anything administrator wise. Getting same error message. Toms fix did not work for me. Control Panel seems to be NO WHERE on here. Running windows XP, Dell Dimension E520
Thanks for anything else someone might have to offer.
yes I have, and I was infected, fixed that, but it didn't change anything. Finally was able to find the system users (per someone elses suggestion on here), it has the main administrator as "debugger" ??? I don't think that was there in the past, however it could have been. Should I remove that???
System Restore will not work either. However, I have not tried it in Safe Mode. Ummmm, I don't know a lot about the inner workings, can you give me the "illiterate" version of how to start in Safe Mode and System Restore, and then what to do after the fact?? LOL LOL LOL
Debugger is listed as the administrator, and since I keep getting that error message, I wondered if I should delete that account. That is not me (debugger). I'm guessing from your comment, that I should NOT do that??
I will try the other fixes tomorrow night. Too late tonight. Thanks for all of your help on this matter!!
