We recently purchased an Inspiron 1525 and are constantly having to change the date and time. Sometimes it goes back - yesterday (April 16th) at 5 p.m., it indicated that it was January 1st, 2001 9:35 a.m. Sometimes it goes ahead - the year 2380 for example. We can reset the date and time, it will sometimes be correct for a few days, and then it changes dramatically again.
u can try this.if u have a computer connected to the internet go to this website www.support.dell.com in this website u will have a link for drivers and downloads.click on it and it will give an option to enter the service tag for the computer.u will find it on the bottom of the computer on a white sticker it will say service tag and it will be a seven character alpha numeric code.enter that and click on go.it will have a list of all the drivers that are listed for the computer.check for something called bios.click on it and download it.transfer that file to ur insp 1525.make sure that the AC adapter of ur laptop is connected and the charge on the battery is more than 50%.doubleclick on that file on ur laptop and it will go through some screens and after that the last screen will say the bios version that is there in the computer and the bios version to which u r going to upgrade and whether the upgrade is supported or not.if it is supported click on continue computer will restart and then change the system time.that should fix the issue.
u can confirm whether this fixed the issue or not :smileyhappy:
You should contact Dell Support since this is a new computer. Sounds like a bad bios battery. You could try replacing the coin cell battery yourself, but it's a real pain so you should let Dell know about this. It involves completely stripping down the computer. Look at the instructions
here.
I followed your instructions and downloaded the latest BIOS which was supported. I now have a black screen with the message "Time-of-day clock stopped".
Any suggestions, I'm new to this so layman's terms please.
I just started receiving the same error in my 1525. I took the laptop complete apart to change the CMOS battery assuming it was dead. I found the coin like battery and checked voltage on it. My 3v battery read 3.10v and now I am confused. If the battery that keeps time and date is not dead what else could it be? Since I have it all apart, I am going to buy a new battery and change it anyway. I kept looking on the motherboard to see if there was anything that looked like it could be causing the problem, but the only thing I kept finding was printed on the board was "Made in China" and right away I knew that I found the problem. I figure I do some more searching and see if there are any other ideas before I put it back together. Thanks, ray
