amen! where are the drivers/patches? vista has been out for a month now, and i still can't install it. same issue.. i have an XPS 410 using RAID 0.. BSOD or freeze up every time. i thought i had bad media when it kept freezing at 27% and/or blue screened until i tried other copies. i can't believe that neither DELL, MICROSOFT or INTEL have addressed this issue yet. i'm not sure who's to blame, but nobody seems to be doing much about it. bios upgrade? driver update? i don't know.

also making me irritated is how dell keeps telling everyone they're shipping the upgrade kits.. when vista becomes available to the general public.. then it changed to at the end of february -- i'm still pending and february is about gone. i think the reason they're not shipping is because they know about these issues and they're scared to ship the product out and have a huge backlash when half the people can't even get through setup.

i think just saying "well don't use RAID" as a solution is unacceptable. my drives are already in RAID setup, so now i have to move 500GB off of them so i can downgrade my setup? not cool, and it's not gonna happen.

from what i've heard, from some users, if they actually do get vista to install on RAID, vista does them the service of degrading/corrupting their drives.

i've pretty much just given up on vista like you.. i may not even touch it again until SP1 comes out.. that's probably the wisest advice for anyone at this point. i think SP1 is scheduled for a late 2007/early 2008 release. wait a year for the operating system to reach the point it should have been at when it was released a month ago.

I have a Dell Dim 9200 and bought an OM Version of Ultimate 32bit
(here in Germany we can get that at much lower cost than the full
versions, just lacking MS support) and my installation worked well
including the recognising the RAID system

Above link gives you an idea of the hardware installed.

Can extract the driver from the Installation CD ?

so you have to basically start with a completely blank RAID 0 setup, no partitions on the disks to install vista?

if this is true, what about the thousands and thousands of people who don't want to have to wipe out all the data on their RAID arrays and start over just to install vista? that's weak.

so if the drivers are fine, is this a BIOS issue that can be fixed in a future BIOS update or just a problem with vista?

no need to get angry about it, i am capable of setting up a 2 disk RAID 0 array.. trust me, there's nothing wrong with the way i have the RAID set up.. i'm not a confused average joe user. this is clearly some sort of compatibility or driver issue, be it in the BIOS or in the vista code/drivers.. just because it works for you doesn't mean that nobody else knows what they're doing..
