Defrag

I have run "defrag" several times for at least two to three hours and it

only goes as high as 8% complete and I shut it off.  What do I have to do to get this to work completely?

Thanks   Maude Baker

I have the same problem. did what this site said, but defrag still stops at 10%. Any other suggestions? By the way, this is not on the computer in my sig. I am trying to clean up my daughters.

    Thanks,

It's normal for a computer to "sit" at the 10% mark for quite some time...even on, a mildly fragmented drive.  Unless you receive a message prompt or error try just letting it run and see if it will complete.

sorry to be so long in replying.  Tried to find the web site suggested - said it was no longer available.  Took my computer to repair and had them install "XP".  Will see how this goes.  Thanks for your reply.

    Bill...

Provided you have followed all the instructions on Denny's site about closing all possible programs before defragging, don't forget the screensaver and if you have a broadband connection, the modem as well.

You may wish to run Scandisk with the "Thorough | Fix Errors" options enabled.  This will take quite a while but if the problem is minor errors on the disk they may be corrected.

If all else fails, go to Folder Options and on the "View" tab select, "Show all Files".  Then do a search for, "Applog".  This will be a folder (as opposed to a file) located in the C:\Windows directory.  Delete the folder, reboot and run Defrag again.  A corrupted Applog folder can cause these problems and by deleting it, a new one can be created.  After the reboot you may change the Folder Options back to not show hidden or system files.
