The instructions for installing Support 2.1 are
here but you probably did not receive the Application - Dell Tools CD referred to. In that case, there appears to be no source from which Support can be downloaded, which is just as well since the program has never worked properly and most users uninstall it to get rid of repeated error messages.
I see, well I did save the "Dell Support" folder to an external hard drive before I reformatted. I managed to get it back from the hard drive. Now heres the problem, when I try and select a channel to check on this is the error I keep on getting.
"An error occurred while checking the channel. Please try again later."
Do you have any idea on why this could be happening? It worked fine before I reformatted, now it doesn't seem to work anymore since then.
Just moving a program's folder back after a reformat does not work, since during the reformat you will have wiped all it registry entries that it needs to function properly. Also (though I don't know if this applies specifically to Dell Support), many programs also put files in other folders, e.g. Windows or System32 folder, or under \program files\common files and other places. These too would be removed when you reformat the drive.
After a reformat and reinstall of the OS (and then the various drivers), you have to reinstall the apps ypoy want. and this does apply to Dell support as well. If you don't have its installation file, you should be able to download it from the Dell downloads.
PS maybe this is the one you want. Although when you check under Systems it only mentions Dimension models, it does explitly say
"This application is supported on Inspiron and Dimension systems running Windows XP"
Yes, I have noticed the same, but it is the only link I could find. If you have XP SP2 Dell Support 2.1 is in any case not compatible. Also, you can get pretty well everything you got from Dell Support 2.1, and lots more from click start, help and support. Most people have uninstalled Dell Support anyway (many posts on this if you search the boards).
There is a link somewhere for Dell Support 3.0 here on the forums. I did some research on it for a class recently. That will be the right reinstallation file you need to get the latest version of Dell Support back on your system. The v2.1 and v3.0 are different ball games and work quite differently.
