I recently downloaded the newest version of Dell Support Center to my XPS 410...however, I'm having two problems.
One, the older version of Dell Support(Dell Support 3.4) is still installed on my computer, and I can't uninstall it - it doesn't show up in the Add/Remove Programs section. Not to mention I can't do anything with it because all of the text under "Dell Support Settings" doesn't show up at all (it's completely white except for the check boxes and the blue arrows).
The new version that I downloaded from the Dell website (Dell Support Center...with the blue wrench icon) DOES show up under the Add/Remove Programs section, but when I try to start it up, the screen pops up and shows the little green circle (as if it's loading), but then I hear two clicks and the program closes. I can't get to any menus or anything.
This is a major problem for me! I'd like to get the new support center running!
Just for clarification, I have an XPS 410 running Windows XP SP3.
Right click the new dell support icon>click dell support center user settings>now click the personalization tab>scroll to the bottom of the page and put a check mark in "allow dell to collect and use my service tag"
The 2 clicks are coming from it trying to collect and use your service tag, which it can't do until you get that item checked. With it greyed out i am at a loss how to get into it,mine went straight thru to enter my service tag.
Something is wrong with the install,i would contact dell support so they can help you install?...And now that you mentioned that,i just checked mine under add/remove programs and my old dell support is still listed along with the newer version? So i would say you do have a problem with this download.
Yep thats right, but when i downloaded mine, right after the install the personalization screen came up for me to accept to use my service tag. There has got to be a way for you to let it accept your service tag?
Did you get a user account control page pop up when you installed?...It would have been a pop up window asking for your permission to continue.
Click start>run>type R180808-3.exe hit enter, and follow the prompts to install.
