Dimension 8300 reinstall issues
Have a Dell Dimension 8300. Simply trying to install the DELL/WIN XP Home software on a new SATA drive.
It came with a SATA drive so it worked at one time.
Am totally unable to get this thing to boot the CD ROM drive. Have changed everything in the setup/bios to look for the CD, still will not boot the CD
Error is strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Anyone have any answers???? to solve this problem
Jim

i don't know if the 8300's came with sata drives, or not..
maybe this will help:
http://www.djdenham.com/8400%20Special.htm
note that the article suggest adjusting the bios settings to accomodate a sata harddrive.. i don't have a sata harddrive, so i am not familiar with working with them..
also look at this..
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1090643
you could also try using "search" in "dell support", searching for "sata harddrive install"..
did you move the cd-rom drive up to "first boot device", or "1" in the boot sequence, in the bios settings?
