I have used a computer for many years. I have never had this happen before. My data files are disappearing! I have several folders in "My Documents" and as I create files, I save them in those folders. One folder that I have not needed to access lately was found to be empty yesterday when I tried to access the files! Previously, there were many files there. Some of them show up in "recent" when I perform a search, but they are not accessible; it's simply a shortcut that can't be found. I checked some other folders, and the same problem exists. What in the world is happening with my files? And, more importantly, how can I get them back?
Thanks for your response. I wondered about the new viruses, so I have already done a virusscan, the minute I noticed the files missing. I have McAfee which is supposed to be kept updated with automatic downloads. In any case, I didn't have any infected files. Anything else?

I believe I read something just this morning about one of the new viruses or worms deleting files.
Do an immediate virus scan.
Do a search for the names of any of those files whose names you can remember.
