On my old XP system, I could drag icons back and forth between the taskbar and the desktop. On my new Windows 10 system, I just tried dragging an icon from the taskbar to the desktop. No joy. Is there any way to do that?

No.You can add a shortcut to desktop and right click on it to pin/unpin to taskbar but not the other way round.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Any clues as to why Microsoft would remove functionality? (sigh)
