dvdrom

How does one get the computer to find the dvd drive? Mine has somehow been deleted, and I can't get the disk to work because I cannot open the drive. I have an Inspiron 2650. Thanks

    Just perform the steps:

Click the Start button, click Run.

In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.

Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

NOTE: When you click the plus sign (+) next to a folder, it will expand displaying the folders it contains in the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor.

Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.

Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.

Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.

Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.

    Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

On the right side of the window, click UpperFilters.

Click Edit on the menu bar.

Click Delete, and then click OK.

On the right side of the window, click LowerFilters.

Click Edit on the menu bar.

Click Delete, and then click OK.

Click File, and then click Exit.

    Restart the computer normally.

    Dan David,

When someone kindly directs the OP to the proper board, for you to barge in, is rude, too post the link with the complete details.

    PVann,

For the complete and detailed help on the Upper and Lower Filters please use Microsoft`s link here instead of a copy / paste.

    Good day,
    Severus

    Severus,
Thank you for taking the time to find that for me. I was reading up on that the other night. The OTHER problem I have is that some friend of mine decided to put LINUX on here, and so when it loads I have to choose between that and Windows. He put a password on it so I can not even get in to it. (I have not seen him for about 2 years now....) I appriciate your help.
