Hard Drive Access

Hello,

I posted this message in the Hard Drive forum but I realized afterwards that this forum here might be more appropriate since it seems to be a WinXP issue.

I've noticed that my hard drive keeps being accessed even when I'm not doing anything on the computer, just merely reading an article on the screen.

Is this a normal occurance?

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

    Sky2002,
It sure is normal for windows xp..it "indexs" all the time..that is indexing files for what it calls..fast file search. I disabled it..and I did notice that after I UNchecked it from start/run/msconfig/services tab..that was not enuff..
Sooo..what did do it for me was was via computer management/disk management/right click on the disk drive/properties and Uncheck "allow indexing to index this disk for fast file searching" .. then you will see it change the "attributes for this drive" and all is done. It speeds up windows xp a lot..or it did for me anyway.

Also, I don't know if you know this so I will comment on it..to find computer management..I ran a search..found it and made a shortcut to the desktop and draged and dropped it to the quick launch tray..since its a great find and I use it a lot..easy and fast information there..and pc maintence.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Happy Holidays and Peace on Earth.

    Bonnie

You can access computer management from the control panel by clicking administative tools and then the shortcut is there.
