Has Dell stopped installing the Symantec System Restore on home computers?
I ordered some computers a few weeks ago and the Symantec System Restore utility was always in the configurator and showed up on the online invoice as PC Restore Recovery by Symantec (something like that). Well, I went to order a computer recently and the option is no longer avilable in the configurator for Dell home orders. I went ahead an ordered and when I saw the online invlice made no mention of it, I canceled my order. It still comes up in the Small Business division like it used to in the home division, but I want to order it though the home division *and* have the restore utilty. I had two conversations with Dell "outsourced" sales and they had no clue what I am talking about. Has anyone here ordered a Dimension from the home division within the last week and had that program installed. I hope some people can help!

- I wonder why they are not installing it or giving the option for it on the home division. Small business Dimensions still have the option. I wonder if it was an oversight or if it was intentional.Dell, Please Listen: I can't order any home computers without the restore utility.
- Anyone--home users or professionals-- can purchase through Small Business division. I always check out both sites for the best deal. Small Business sells older models until stock is depleted, so you sometimes can get a better deal there.
- Yeah...I know. But a lot of the coupons I get and the affiliate discount apply to the home division only. Is just isn't fair that Dell is shipping computers with no way of restoring your computer in the event of a problem. Even lowly emachines and Compaq computers have a restore utility. There is no reason why Dell is not installing it.

On the UK site, when customizing a Dimension, you can choose between the restore partition or an OS installation CD.

I have seen nothing to indicate that PC Restore by Symantec is no longer installed on all new Dimension and Inspiron systems. It appears to have simply been left off of the new "configurator" in Home and Home Office. As you note, it is still listed as an automatic addition in Small Business and I'm certain that Dell does not have the capability of segregating the Home Office Dimensions and Inspirons in the assembly line to prevent the PC Restore from being installed.
Additionally, Dell has been advancing the theory for two years now that PC Restore is a substitute for an operating system reinstallation CD. The fact that the CD is still listed as an option in Home and Home Office lends further credence to the fact that PC Restore is still available.
