Having trouble running Msconfig

Whene ever I try to run msconfig on my computer, or when ever I try to ctrl+alt+delete a program, the window appears for a second, then closes.  This has been happening for a long time now, so system restore will not help.   I have just run the free trial Mcafree anti-virus software and deleted all found viruses.. but the problem persists.  When I installed Symantec from my original software, it would not search for viruses, instead the window would just close after 1 second.  Any help would be appreciated.. I am trying all I can to avoid reformating.

I have run the appropriate patches and tools, and those viruses do not seem to be on my computer.  I have had this virus for quite some time now ( over 6 months).  But the onle disallowing Norton to search is newer I believe.

Do the virus scan from the Internet some viruses, Klez for instance, will corrupt NAV, McAfee etc. so it can't be found.

Check for viruses using one or two of these online scanners:
    symantec
    pandasoftware
    pcpitstop
    trendmicro

I have tried all those online variations, none could detect the virus.  One day Norton said that I have a W32.spybot.worm virus on my computer.  I looked at the removal part of the virus definitions and it told me to just run in safe mode and scan with norton.  But if you read what the virus does, it disables norton from scanning so I can not delete it with norton.  I have tried to manually delete it but it always tells me I am unable to delete it.

    linky,

Try following the advice in the first link below. You may be infected with some sort of adware/spyware.
