Help! Minimizing to the task bar

Hi,
 Everytime i minimize a program it minimized to the taskbar and becomes a little icon, i do not know why but i would like to stop it. it would be great if someone could help me figure out how because it is really annoying to have icons stack up next to the clock.

    When you minimize a program, it appears as an icon with some text. Thats normal. Are you talking about startup applications or all programs.

    No, i'm not talking about the toolbar, i'm talking about the taskbar next to the clock with the little icons, i'm saying wheneveri have something open and i hit the minimze button it turns into an icon next to the clock. how do i stop that?
