hidden temporary internet files?

Hi

I ran disktective (www.freebyte.com/disktective/) and apparently a _huge_ amount of space is being used by temporary internet files (several gigabytes). I barely use internet explorer, but I opened it and deleted them from internet options. I also viewed the folder from mycomputer and it was blank. However, barely any disk space cleared up and disktective is still saying that temporary internet files is still taking up a huge amount of space. I know I am in the correct username.

Any ideas?

Did you empty the recycle bin?  Disk space is not freed until the recycle bin is emptied.

    Vizilla,
Is Disktective showing the temporary internet files for just your user or for all users?  Each user needs to run disk cleanup as well as using Internet Options to delete cookies and temporary files (you must check "Delete all offline content" to really clean out the temporary files.  You can also use the Internet Options Advanced button to "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed."

Check out > Start > Run > Type %temp% and click OK.

And there are the Index.Dat files. You cannot delete those, but some programs will let you do that at reboot.

    Hope this helps.

Yup, the recycle bin was emptied. Disktective was listing temp internet files for just my user (this is my personal computer and the other users are barely used.)

I tried that line in Run and it gave me the temp directory, which is different than temporary internet files. It is only using 5% of what temporary internet files is using.

    Any other ideas?

CCleaner is one of those programs that will help you. Give it a look.

CCleaner worked _beautifully_. Got rid of 12 gigs(!).

    Thanks everyone :)
